Find a flight. Getting around Driving in Ireland Ireland by train. Our first stop was in Galway. Instead, I was ready to take Galway on without a plan as soon as we got there. But as our taxi pulled up in front of our hotel on Quay Street, all of my fears were assuaged. But Galway took it to a new level with its options.

Within a few blocks of our hotel, there were at least a dozen historic, classically European bars. Each of them had a different feel, but all offered the same Irish atmosphere and Irish beers! With so many offerings, we ended up doing a makeshift bar crawl around Galway. Some of our favorites included:. Between here and Dublin , Galway wins for better pubs hands down.

We found that pubs in Dublin played the music that tourists had come to expect. Songs like Sweet Caroline and Living on a Prayer. But Galway? Music I have never heard before flowed out of every window. The town has so much beautiful, traditional music to share known as Trad.

Buskers line quay street, trad flows out of bars and stores. Even the mall down the street plays Trad over the loudspeakers! This is a broad generalization, but it really is true. Fox says that she has overseen 13 transfers to higher-funding supports from Enterprise Ireland.

Another avenue is Enterprise Ireland itself. Everything from offering tips on where to pursue top talent, to where I should be golfing on the weekends, the community has been fantastic. Most times I would walk back to my apartment after the meeting s thinking, wow that was a very nice, helpful person, but what is the deal with this graveyard of ambition talk?

How are we going to create and hire jobs in a place with no drive or passion? Like any great Irish term there had to be a story behind it, and I needed to find out quickly or I knew my trip across the pond was to be a short one. A few weeks passed and I finally got an answer, and some much needed relief.

In speaking to the head of one of the Big Four tax firms in town, he explained that the term dates back to the s when describing the career path of a banker in Ireland.

Legend has it that an aspiring banker would typically start out in their hometown, and then promotions would mean you get transferred to another location, and then another, and so on. They loved the town so much that they would actually forego future career potential for the love of the Galway and the culture of the west of Ireland.
