Some people also refer to XLR cables as microphone cables. Although XLR is popularly known as an audio cable, it is not restricted to only audio. Some stage lighting engineers use XLR cables for their lighting gear.

They are not common, but some people do it. Both the Hot and Cold or Left and Right wires carry the actual electrical current, while the ground is pretty much the ground. This three-wire configuration makes an XLR cable a balanced cable. For instance, microphones have male XLR connectors that send signals from the microphone.

However, mixer inputs have female XLR connectors for receiving audio. You get the point. They are also one of the most used audio connectors out there. TS is an abbreviation for Tip-Sleeve. As you can see from the image, there are two sections of this connector. The tip of the connector is referred to as the Tip of course , and the black line on the second section is known as the Sleeve.

The tip of the connector remains the Tip. And on the second section, there are two lines. The first line is the Ring , and the second line is the Sleeve. There are three wires in TRS cables — ground, left or hot, and right or cold. This is the big difference between the two. You may have seen them on stage, in-studio or even at your simple sound systems at home. It is used for instrument and line-level connections and to connect speakers to amps, guitar heads to amps.

You can find such cable connectors used in keyboards, pianos, guitar amps, recording equipment, mixing desks, PA systems, and hi-fi equipment. If you run the cables in parallel with the power cables, it will capture more noise in this placement. Enough space is needed between the audio and power cables to discount the noise. They are mainly used for mixers, recording equipment, and PA systems.

I did managed album to Grammy Award in with 7 Nominations from and had the opportunities to work with : A. Contents 1 What is XLR? Unbalanced Cables 3. You can watch this step by step video to solve this issue:. Jeff DeLia. Hi music fan! I don't mean to sound so dumb The reason the adapter says Lo-Z balanced on it is to tell you that it's not converting the signal to Hi-Z and that it is indeed a TRS connector.

Or at least it should be a TRS connector. The signal stays the same, the connectors are just different. Remember, these connectors and cables you are using do not denote what kind of signal you are using They are just there to give you options of how to plug your gear in.

It's up to YOU to decide where the appropriate places to plug them into are. Next, you said: I want reverb on my voice. I'm thoroughly confused now, because upon closer inspection of this adapter with the Radio Shack logo on it , it says "Lo-Z balanced" on one side, and "Hi-Z Unbalanced" on the other side.

In between those two labels is a schematic drawing I don't really understand. The bottom line is, it has one black band. I followed what you said about my reverb situation. I do have a Presonus TubePre that might be something that can help. I don't know about it's Hi-Z or Lo-Z. Last edited: Jun 26, I read a ton of stuff elsewhere, but you are the only to make it clear.

I hope you get credited for the great help you give - thank you thank you thank you. I'll buy. It's really cool that you spent all this time on my little problem. Thank you.
