We block IPv6 at the firewall, but leave it on internally. Works just fine for us. However in this case, you made the right call to disable it to troubleshoot an issue. No one said turning it off here and there is bad, but to routinely turn it off in all cases simply just because, is just going to cause more problems down the road as equipment is changed and updated.
My recommendation is to keep whatever the default setting is. If it's already ON, then leave it ON. Other than troubleshooting issues I wouldn't think much about it. Not sure if disabling IPv6 would have fixed this, but I ran into an issue the other day where having a blank field in a group policy for WinRM IPv6 filtering resulted in problems authenticating into Windows Admin Center.
Having said that, network pros really should be forcing themselves to put it into practice. I agree with multiple comments here: if it's on by default, leave it on, with exceptions for troubleshooting or if you adopt a product that interferes with it's usage and need to disable it for that reason. That said, I think if you run into any situation that calls for IPv6 to be turned off, I would consider looking at other products.
