The sleeper is next to the diner they do not have a 30 car like other trains. Sleepers are not on the rear any more. Well I guess I wont have the nice view out the back thru the Sierras and Rockies as had the last trip a few years ago..
No Denver setout sleeper this summer? That's been a fairly regular occurence for several summers now. NZ Edited 1 time s. I don't know if they'll be doing a Denver sleeper or not this year Does anyone recall? There was a Denver sleeper on 5 out of Chicago this past Monday.
I ran the train to Ottumwa and had 10 cars, with a sleeper on the rear. There was a sleeper on the rear but it went all the way to Emeryville. There was only a trans-dorm and one sleeper on the headend. So if the change is made it will be made mid January and stay in effect until late May if they follow last year's schedule.
You never know, maybe they will not make the change this year. For now, Amtrak has to figure out how to operate the Zephyr between Reno and Emeryville based on the record snow fall the Sierra Nevadas are experiencing now.
It will be interesting how they handle the January 11 number 5 since there will be no number 6 arriving tomorrow January For now two set os CZ equipment are stuck in Oakland unless they have relocated the equipment back to Chicago via a detour. You can probably expect to be able to buy water and soda and ICE seems to be no problem anymore. Food is hit or miss for quality, thus the reason to bring snacks.
I personally always bring the makings for cocktails as well. Note: when I did a trip with my wife I brough a bottle of bubbly and something the chuck the bottle into, and got ice on the train to chill it, the first night we opened it, turn-out the lights and enjoyed the passing view of city lights Bottled water should be included with the ice, coffee, tea, newspaper, apple, and orange juice in your sleeping car fare, until the next time Amtrak cuts amenities.
Just incase you care at all Room E is good. Also as a matter of the consist being reversed it is now back to normal. The sleepers have been on the headend of the train since the end of summer and I suspect the will be back to being on the rear when summer arrives again for Feel free to come up and say hello in Sparks if we are early that day and or Reno when we arrive.

No railroaders in my family, but both of my childhood homes were within a house lot from a track - so every night I fell to sleep with the sound of trains going by. The stops are fairly brief a few minutes , except for "smoking stops," which are longer. However, even those are in the range of ten or fifteen minutes. The length will be announced, along with the important warning that you should not venture too far from the train.
