The developer devised two different methods to install Magisk and root Android devices:. The best part about rooting your Android device with Magisk is that it gives you the ability to install OTA updates easily. So, follow the instructions below on how to do it. When you root using Magisk, it is only installed to the currently active slot of your Android device. And finally, right before you reboot your phone, you can install Magisk to the inactive slot to preserve root after the update.

Still, sounds a bit confusing? In Android 8. Although this is great for an average Android user, but not for those who have rooted their devices. In order to update your rooted Android phone, you must first prevent the system from automatically installing updates without your acknowledgment. Now your Android device is rooted and an OTA update notification has arrived. When an OTA update is available, you will need to restore the stock boot image and dtbo, if applicable and uninstall Magisk from the current slot.

While you can easily ignore this, OTAs are important. OTAs are more than just security patches and software updates. Many OEMs will package new features and bug fixes that improve the experience. This is why you don't want to ignore OTA. Although it takes some effort, updating your rooted device is worth it.

To properly install the update, your phone needs to be returned to its original firmware the way it was before you made any changes. If you used a systemless root method and did not make any permanent changes to files in the system partition on your phone, you'll only need to reinstall the stock boot image. Otherwise, you'll need to reinstall the entire firmware before accepting the update.

If you're unsure about whether or not you rooted with a systemless root method or if you don't know what you modified using root access, we recommend flashing the entire stock firmware package for your phone. For those new to the process, we have a guide that breaks down all the steps. We even included some of the links for the factory images of some popular smartphones commonly used by the rooting community.

Start from Step 6, as you don't need to re-unlock your bootloader, and make sure you download the factory image for the firmware version you are currently on.

Since you were previously rooted, this process should be familiar already, but check out the link below for a refresher on installing TWRP. There's a forum on XDA dedicated to them , and many don't make it to the Magisk repo despite their usefulness. There are also several that we've come across and found useful in our previous coverage.

Here are a few of the highlights:. Before there was Magisk, the Xposed Framework was far and away the best way to customize your phone's UI. It hooked into the system at such a low level that it could change virtually anything — from the color of your notification icons to the layout in apps you installed. But as the community gravitated towards systemless mods that made it possible to pass SafetyNet and easier to update Android, Xposed's system modifications fell out of favor.

This also coincided with developer Rovo89 stepping away from the project, leading to the "death" of Xposed. But then the EdXposed module from developer solohsu , based on the Riru platform by developer RikkaW , brought Xposed back from the brink and into the systemless era. In short, it's Xposed for Magisk, and most of the massive repo of modules still work. Definitely worth checking out:.

Once you've got the framework installed, make sure to take advantage of it. In the EdXposed app, open the hamburger menu and tap "Download. But with the overlap in eras that these modules span, it's advisable to carefully read the release notes to ensure compatibility.

Also know that some modules may trip SafetyNet, depending on what they change. Typically, modules that change the functionality or appearance of apps won't cause issues, but the ones that change Android itself might. Still, there are ways to make SafetyNet work even in these situations. Under ordinary conditions, the official website of mobile phone manufacturers will update some system files for users to download and upgrade.

After rebooting, your phone will be updated to the Android 10 Q automatically. Rooting is an extremely powerful approach to update your Android system.

Android 10 was originally introduced on Google devices. Now, many brands of mobile phones have also released the latest Android version.

The following is the list of Android 10 supported devices:. The above are three ways to update the Android OS version, have you learned?
