The 10th annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 9 - 12 on the same beautiful acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. A full list of confirmed acts follows, and more will be announced in the coming weeks.
The final Bonnaroo lineup will total over bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days. Tickets for the event will go on sale on this Saturday, February 19, at 12noon eastern exclusively at bonnaroo. The event marks the 10th year for the legendary festival, which began in as a remarkable idea to serve a passionate yet underappreciated and overlooked fanbase, and ended up becoming the premier multi-day concert destination of the summer whose dynamic and eclectic programming paved the way for the age of the great American music festival.
OK, it was pretty much the heat. As the crowds began to file out of the dusty acre farm that the fest has called home for 10 years now, the question was: Who managed to steal the show? Of the something acts on the Bonnaroo bill this year, which was the best? The buzz from those exiting through the gates might surprise you. Because, sure, we heard plenty of praise for the bands that fell within the traditional parameters of Bonnaroo — the String Cheese Incident's late-night performance on Saturday complete with an inflatable dinosaur that descended on the crowd earned high praise; as did Gogol Bordello's marathon set that same night; the walloping, womb-like low-end of Bassnectar; STS9's hippie trance; Dr.
But there were also more than a few mentions of the nontraditional acts, namely, headliners Lil Wayne and Eminem. Of course. I think the challenge for any festival these days is to create its own character and have a unique experience that really allows it to stand apart from the other festivals.
A lot of big festivals were announced with great fanfare, booked huge acts and then disappeared a year or two later. I live in New York and there are very few festivals nearby. You guys tried a few years ago with Bonnaroo Northeast, but that obviously was a disaster.
Do you ever think about expanding again to this part of the country? That was an interesting experience and we learned a couple of things from it. I also think that New Yorkers are in the luxurious position getting to see any type of music that they want several times a year. Eminem is a pretty great get for this year. Great live performers are what we try to present at Bonnaroo, and I always look forward to that big show. It just lends itself to an extraordinary experience. We are definitely thinking about the Bonnaroo and there has been some discussion and some movement, but nothing for certain yet.
